As your Town Supervisor, I will continue working to strengthen services for youths and seniors, improve constituent relations and support sound economic development efforts to expand the tax base and protect taxpayers. As a fiscal conservative with private sector business experience, I have made reducing the burden carried by taxpayers my number one priority. I will deal with the issues in an honest and straightforward manner always respecting the rights and opinions of others.

Property Taxes

As Councilman, I lead the financial resurrection of our town. We eliminated a $1.3 million deficit and now have a $1.1 million surplus without raising property taxes since 2008. As I did in the town, I will continue reviewing all expenditures to protect taxpayers and ensure continued budget stability. I also recognize the enormous burdens placed on local budgets and property taxpayers by unfunded state and federal mandates. I will work in a cooperative fashion with all elected officials to support real reform of mandates.

Ensuring that youths have adequate services and guidance is a commitment for me. As co-chairman of the Youth Committee, I helped revitalize the summer program and restored and organized special events for our youth, saving tax payers $80,000 a year in the process. We have also built new playgrounds and improved special events such as the children's Christmas party, Easter egg hunt, and children's race. With years as a coach and instructor and active supporter of youth organizations, I will continue to work and encourage quality youth services.

North Greenbush Youth Center

Lou made it a priority to revitalize the town youth center, located in the town offices, to give youths a safe and fun place to play and relax. Lou joined with other town officials to celebrate the changes at the youth center.

Our seniors have given so much to our town and country and deserve the best. I will proudly support the outstanding level of services provided at the county nursing home, Van Rensselaer Manor, considered one of the finest senior care facilities in the Northeast. Quality and affordable housing for seniors is a priority. As a Councilman, I have supported projects to create new and affordable senior housing in North Greenbush. Ensuring seniors have access to quality services will always be important to me and I will always treat calls and concerns from seniors as a priority.

Economic Development

With New York State’s taxes among the highest in the nation, expanding the tax base to relieve the enormous burden on property taxpayers will be a priority. I supported projects to expand the tax base in North Greenbush, helping produce the 2009-2014 town budgets that did not raise property taxes. At the same time, I recognize the need to protect the investments made by other properties; maintain quality of life and the unique feeling and look of neighborhoods throughout our town.

Open Government

Open and honest government is the foundation of our democracy. I value the input of residents and encourage their involvement in local government. As your Town Supervisor, I will post regular updates of my actions as a town lawmaker on our website and newspapers. I will also encourage residents to e-mail me with suggestions and ideas regarding the operation of town government, and I will always maintain an open door policy when it comes to dealing with the people I am elected to serve.

Participation in Government class

Lou recently visited a Participation in Government class taught at his alma mater, LaSalle Institute, where he discussed his work as a North Greenbush Councilman and encouraged the students to become involved in the community and to make a difference whenever possible.
